"Nurturing care for the fourth trimester..."
It is with great pleasure that I pass on my experience as a parent. Since I am able to "remember when", I can empathize with the new mom. I am a certified postpartum doula and childbirth educator, and just as importantly, I am the mother of three grown boys. Because information is always changing, I strive to educate myself with the latest news in breastfeeding, newborn care, and postpartum issues through classes, workshops, books and articles. I am also an American Heart Association certified CPR instructor, a H.U.G. Your Baby teacher, a Becoming Us - Family facilitator and a certified maternal and infant sleep consultant. I am a member of CAPPA (Childbirth And Postpartum Professionals Association).
When I'm not teaching, I'm at the office of Penny Simkin, helping her with bookkeeping, class communication, and giving her dog, Lola, treats when Penny is out of town. In February of 2016, I had the privilege of learning from Penny and Phyllis Klaus, on the topic of sexual abuse and traumatic birth survivors giving birth. I believe everyone working the the birthing field can benefit from this valuable information.
If I don't know the answer to a question, I will do my best to find the answer to better inform the parent(s). In my spare time, I enjoy knitting, crocheting, scrapbooking, church activities, volunteering and my horse Neala. My boys and my husband, Fred, are an inspiration and provide many hours of joy, laughter... and a healthy supply of stories!
